Greater Franklin Region

The Greater Franklin Region includes nine communities located southwest of Boston within commuting distance of Boston, Worcester, and Providence, R.I. Centered around Franklin, the Greater Franklin Region has a population of 123,500 and a resident labor force of 68,000. Greater Franklin Region residents are well educated with high labor force participation rates. These factors along with low unemployment rates result in household incomes well above the state and national levels.

The rapidly growing Greater Franklin Region economy enjoys good transportation networks with convenient access to highway I-495 and major routes such as the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) and Routes 1 and I-95. The region includes many small and medium-sized businesses as well as large firms like EMC Corporation, Putnam Investments, and Garelick Farms. Economically diverse, the region is expanding both its industrial base and residential housing stock. Due to its rapid economic growth, the Greater Franklin Region is an active participant in the I-495 Technology Corridor Initiative.
